Thirty years ago, our club was founded in Frankfurt by Antje Fest, Rosemarie Nicolaus and a number of women from their circle of friends. The idea was to bring together women who are committed to art, culture and social causes and who wish to network internationally. Today, our club has almost 80 members. For our 30th-anniversary celebrations, Antje Fest herself returned to join us as a guest of honour. Together with Lyceum members from all the German clubs, there was a lively exchange about the past, present and future.
The celebrations were particularly enriched by the lively exchanges between our members and guests from Switzerland, the Netherlands and France. It was a special honour to welcome Pascale Anderson Mair from Paris, the new Vice-President for the Northern Hemisphere – a wonderful sign of solidarity within the Lyceum community.
The ILC Frankfurt Rhein-Main marked its 30th anniversary with a festive celebration in Königstein. The musical programme was provided by pianist Leonhard Dering, a former scholarship holder, who played some wonderful music on the piano, whilst Michelle Spillner enchanted the guests with her talk: ‘Volunteering is not a magic trick’; and the singers from the Frankfurt Rhein-Main University of Music brought the day to a close with music from opera and operetta.
The day was accompanied by good food and lively conversation amongst the guests.
